your heads are likely warped You should remove your heads and see how bad they are warped, and also check to make sure your camshafts aren't binding due to the warpage. I recently worked on a Honda Civic...the moron kept driving it with the temp gauge pegged. It got so hot it stretched the head bolts. After having the head decked, I had to line hone the camshaft journals in the head because they were warped too. Otherwise the cam would have seized in the head and broken the timing belt. FWIW, the Honda had the temp sensor in the cylinder head rather than in the radiator pipe like it is on the Z, so it gave a better temp reading.
